Abadan and Khorramshahr cover areas as large as 2652 and 1902 square kilometers in the southwestern section of the Khuzestan province. They border Shadegan from north and the Persian Gulf from south and reach Arvand River in the west. Elevated approximately 6.6 meters from sea level, they are 15 kilometers apart and only 54 kilometer away from Basra in Iraq.

Arvand free zone consists of three main sections. Its western border is in the Shalamcheh region which borders Iraq and functions as the main outpost for export and trade with Iraq while its eastern border is the Abadan Refinery.
